Hypno-CBT with Francesco Carco

Hypno-CBT

It refers to a combination of hypnotherapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT). Hypno-CBT® is a therapeutic approach that combines techniques from hypnotherapy and cognitive-behavioural therapy. This integrated approach aims to leverage the benefits of both methodologies to treat various psychological conditions more effectively.

Hypnotherapy involves guiding someone into a hypnotic state or trance-like state of focus and concentration, which can make them more open to suggestions and changes in behaviour, emotions, and thoughts. It’s often used to help with issues like anxiety, phobias, substance abuse, and pain management.

Cognitive-behavioural therapy (CBT), on the other hand, is a well-established form of talk therapy that helps people identify and challenge negative thought patterns and behaviours, and replace them with healthier ones. It’s widely used to treat a range of mental health conditions, including depression, anxiety disorders, and eating disorders.

By combining these two approaches, Hypno-CBT® aims to help individuals make more rapid and sustainable changes. The idea is that hypnosis can enhance the effectiveness of cognitive-behavioural techniques by facilitating a deeper level of engagement with the therapeutic process and making it easier to internalize new coping strategies and perspectives.

Can you be hypnotised online?

Hypnotherapy can work excellently online as it allows an individual to use their own personal space for relaxation. The initial discussion and consultation are the same in person or online, but the relaxation part simply requires the individual to feel comfortable in their surroundings so that they have the maximum opportunity to relax.

Hypnotherapy online can work via video call, the individual simply has to listen to the practitioners voice guide them. Sometimes a video call can work more effectively, allowing the online therapist to assess how deeply relaxed a person is. Once the relaxation element of the therapy session is over, the client can remain in their relaxed environment.

As hypnotherapy is a relaxation technique which enables a brains receptiveness to change, it is an exceptionally useful therapy tool. As part of a multi-discipline therapy plan, hypnotherapy is a welcome complimentary therapy used to aid the speediness of recovery.

How effective is online Hypnotherapy?

Online hypnotherapy works much like in-person hypnotherapy, but it is conducted over the internet using video conferencing tools. This approach has gained popularity due to its convenience, flexibility, and the ongoing global shift towards telehealth services. Here’s how it typically works:

  1. Finding a Therapist: The first step is to find a qualified hypnotherapist who offers online sessions. Many therapists now provide online services, and you can usually find them through professional directories, online searches, or referrals.
  2. Initial Consultation: Many hypnotherapists offer an initial consultation to discuss your goals, explain how hypnotherapy works, assess your suitability for online sessions, and address any concerns you may have. This session also helps in building rapport with the therapist.
  3. Setting Up: For the therapy sessions, you’ll need a quiet, comfortable space where you won’t be disturbed. You’ll also need a good internet connection, a computer or tablet with a webcam, and headphones or speakers. Some therapists may recommend using headphones to help you focus on their voice and minimize external distractions.
  4. The Hypnotherapy Session: During the session, the therapist will guide you through the process. This usually involves leading you into a relaxed state, often called a hypnotic trance, where you can be more open to suggestions. Despite the digital medium, the process and techniques used are very similar to those in face-to-face therapy. The therapist may use visualization, suggestions, and guided imagery to help you work towards your goals, whether it’s managing anxiety, quitting smoking, or another issue.
  5. Interactivity: Just like in-person sessions, online hypnotherapy is interactive. You can communicate with your therapist in real-time, providing feedback and asking questions as needed. The therapist can adjust their approach based on your responses and the progress of the session.
  6. Safety and Comfort: One of the benefits of online hypnotherapy is that you can be in your own home, which for many people can feel safer and more comfortable than an external office. This comfort can help you relax more easily during the sessions.
  7. Follow-up and Support: After the session, therapists often provide support materials, such as recordings of the session or guided relaxation exercises, which you can use between sessions. Follow-up sessions can be scheduled as needed to continue working on your goals.

It’s important to ensure that your chosen therapist is qualified and experienced in delivering online hypnotherapy. Professional bodies in many countries have guidelines and training for therapists providing online services, ensuring that they maintain the same standards of care and confidentiality as they would in person.
